Relic decisions become expensive when every upgrade material is limited, so a promising item deserves more than a quick glance at its rarity. Before investing, compare its effect with the character's actual combat pattern and long-term priorities, especially if you are also managing resources such as Hero Siege Gold during progression.
A relic with impressive numbers may still perform poorly if it improves a minor skill, adds damage in the wrong situation, or duplicates a stat the character already has in excess. The strongest choice usually fixes a clear weakness or significantly improves the build's main source of power.
Start With the Character's Main Job
First identify how the character wins encounters. Some builds rely on repeated area attacks, others depend on critical strikes, summoned units, ranged abilities, or a powerful opening skill. A relic should support that core plan rather than simply offering the highest visible value.
Next, check whether the character is missing damage, survival, resource control, or reliable targeting. A modest bonus that solves a frequent problem can be more valuable than a larger bonus that rarely changes the result. Consider actual combat time, not only the character sheet.
| Relic effect | Most valuable when | Common limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Area damage | Groups remain alive after the first attack | Less useful against single targets |
| Single-target damage | Bosses or elite enemies take too long to defeat | Limited impact during ordinary waves |
| Cooldown reduction | Key abilities control the entire rotation | Weak if skills already refresh quickly |
| Defense or recovery | Survival prevents consistent damage | Lower immediate offensive output |
Match the Bonus to the Real Weakness
Imagine a character with excellent area damage but poor boss performance. Another area bonus may look attractive, yet it does little during the encounters that cause failure. A relic that increases single-target damage, improves critical consistency, or strengthens the primary boss skill is likely the better investment.
For a character that clears slowly because enemies survive the opening attack, the decision changes. Additional area damage, penetration, or a bonus that affects the first cast may shorten every wave. In this case, the relic should be tested against common enemy groups rather than judged by its performance in a boss room.
Separate Useful Scaling From Redundant Stats
Repeated bonuses are not always worthless, but their value can fall sharply after a threshold. If a character already has reliable critical chance, another small increase may produce less practical benefit than attack speed, skill power, or resource recovery.
Read the wording carefully. A bonus may affect all abilities, only a tagged skill type, or damage after a specific condition. Effects that require an awkward trigger can underperform even when their listed percentage is high. Favor bonuses that activate naturally during the rotation you already use.
Use a Quick Drop Checklist
When a new relic appears, review it in the same order every time. This prevents rarity, color, or attractive artwork from deciding the upgrade by itself.
Does the effect improve the character's main damage source
Does it address the reason encounters are currently difficult
Will the effect activate consistently in ordinary combat
Does it provide more value than an existing relic with a similar role
Can the character benefit from it immediately without rebuilding the entire setup
After equipping a candidate, test it in both regular waves and difficult single-target encounters. Record how quickly enemies fall, how often abilities are available, and whether survival improves. A relic that feels less impressive at first may prove stronger through consistency.
Good relic evaluation is less about chasing the rarest item and more about identifying the effect that changes real combat results. Compare the relic with the whole build, reserve materials for bonuses that solve meaningful problems, and use resources wisely if you decide to buy Hero Siege Gold for broader progression needs.
