The Ith Rune has a specific early-game job in D2R: it's a component in Malice, not the rune that makes Stealth. If you're sorting a leveling stash alongside your D2R Ladder Items, keep Ith for a clear plan rather than assuming every low rune belongs in armor.
What Is the Ith Rune Used For in D2R
Ith is best known as one of the runes in Malice, an early Runeword for melee weapons. The recipe is Ith, El, Eth, in that order, so this rune matters most when you have a suitable weapon base and want to build around it.
Malice brings useful weapon effects for fighting tough enemies, including Open Wounds and Prevent Monster Heal. It also has a drawback, so it isn't an automatic upgrade for every character; compare the whole package with the weapon you already use.
The base matters as much as the rune. Malice needs a three-socket melee weapon, and the runes must go in the listed order. Putting Ith in armor or using the wrong order won't create the Runeword, even though the socketed runes still provide their individual effects.
Does Ith Make Stealth in D2R
No. Stealth uses Tal and Eth in a two-socket body armor, so Ith has no place in that recipe. The distinction is easy to miss when you're collecting early runes and planning your first useful gear upgrades.
Stealth is a popular leveling option because its bonuses support mobility and casting, while Malice is a weapon choice for melee characters. They solve different gear problems, so decide which slot needs help before spending runes or holding out for a particular base.
If you already have the armor base and runes for Stealth, you don't need to save Ith for that project. Keep it for Malice, consider an available rune-upgrade recipe, or leave it in storage until your character's needs are clearer.
Should You Keep Ith for Leveling Gear
Keep one if you expect to make Malice and have a melee character who can use it. Ith takes little effort to store, but saving every low rune without a plan can make it harder to spot the pieces you actually need for your next upgrade.
Before committing it, check your weapon base and think about how long you'll use the result. A Runeword is only useful when its slot, bonuses, and drawbacks fit your build; a promising recipe won't help much if you're still waiting on a weapon you can equip.
In short, Ith is a Malice rune, not a Stealth rune. Check your socketed weapon options first, then keep it for the recipe or move on with your gear plan; if you're filling another gap in your setup, compare it with cheap D2R Items as your next step.
